Caretaker Conventions to be Put Under the Spotlight

Australian House of Representatives

The Chamber of the House of Representatives, Parliament House Canberra.

A free webinar will be held next week that will be of particular interest to public servants working in jurisdictions heading to the polls over coming months.

If you work in the Northern Territory, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory governments, then you should look to register for the Caretaker conventions in Westminster Systems webinar facilitated by Jennifer Menzies — a leading authority and author on caretaker conventions across Australasia — from the Policy Innovation Hub, Griffith University.

The webinar will explore the way conventions work within the Westminster system and the role of the public sector and its professional obligations during the caretaker period. Jennifer will share case studies that illustrate some of the challenges and debates on the application of the conventions. And she will also unpack the importance of judgement in the interpretation of caretaker conventions.

The webinar will be held from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm on Tuesday 18 August 2020 and is part of the Challenger Seminar Series, a partnership between IPAA Queensland and Griffith University.

Anyone interested in attending should register their interest on the IPAA Queensland website.
